Bag of Stuff Challenge Quilts

The idea behind the Bag of Stuff challenge was for the quilter to put into a paper bag several pieces of fabric from her stash that she wanted to see end up as a wall hanging.  She could include embellishments, buttons, beads, lace, etc.  The person making the quilt could add fabrics from her own stash and could choose to use the embellishments or not.  For this year's challenge, everyone was supposed to try to include a circular or curved element in the wall hanging.

Sylvia organized the challenge, and took all the bags, randomized them and redistributed them.  Anyone who brought a bag got a different bag to work on, with the goal being to create a quilt no larger than 20 inches on a side.  The person who got the bag did not know whose bag she received.  The resulting quilts were shared at the November 2008 meeting.

"Kaye made two quilts for me in the Bag of Stuff Challenge.   She liked one better than the other but gave me the beautiful pieced top.  I finished it at our retreat and enjoyed having two holiday quilts in my home."

"Kaye did a fantastic job creating a holiday quilt for me The embellishments are really cute."

"Bag of Stuff Challenge Sampler" made by Sandi Irish from Jeanette Root's Bag of Stuff.

19" x 19"

Sandi said that she forgot to include the curved element until the quilt was almost finished, so she added rick rack to the border for the curves.

"Magnificent Moth" made by Trisha Millonig from Sally Mortenson's Bag of Stuff.

"One of the batiks in my bag of stuff had large red, blue and green dots.  Trisha saw a moth in her yard that had dots on its wings, and they reminded her of the dotted batik.  She embellished the dots, which makes the quilt shimmer in the sunlight."

"My Quilted Cottage" made by Harriet Jahnke from Cindy Hilleary's Bag of Stuff.

17" x 17"

Made by Jackie Grinde from Beth Kobliska's Bag of Stuff.

"I picked out the wildest fabrics I could find to really challenge whoever got my bag of sturr, and I was thrilled with the results."

Jackie made 2 quilts, because the first quilt (on top) came out larger than the maximum size in the challenge rules.

Color Our World Crayon Challenge

Sandi Irish organized this year's quilt show challenge.  Each quilter got a crayon, and was challenged to make a quilt that was 75% the color, or shades of the color of her crayon.
